    It's been almost 13 years since travelers could zip across the ocean at twice the speed of sound. That's when the last Concorde jet was retired -- a plane that typically flew at 1,300 mph, twice as fast as a conventional jetliner. The Concorde could fly from New York to London in about 3-1/2 hours. But the speedy jet guzzled fuel and carried only a fraction as many passengers as a sub-sonic jumbo jet. And tickets cost as much as $20,000.
