1. 2017 Colorado Legislative Session Summary

    2017 Colorado Legislative Session Summary

With each new legislative session in Colorado, we have seen the volume of technology-related legislation increase. The 2017 session was no different, as we saw an abundance of bills introduced. Colorado Technology Association actively monitored the bills that may impact our industry.

CTA carefully watched legislation that aimed to change the state procurement process, alter broadband statute and regulate autonomous vehicles. When we thought it was necessary, we intervened on issues such as privacy and cybersecurity, making our voice and the voice of the tech community heard. CTA also actively supported and testified on legislation to improve computer science and STEM education, continue effective angel investment tax credits and retain data centers. All six of the bills CTA took support positions on were passed by the General Assembly and sent to Gov. Hickenlooper.

To grow and maintain relationships with legislators and officials and provide members with information on important tech issues, CTA held a series of events: a pre-session Industry Briefing with CDOT on their RoadX program and solving future transportation needs with technology; our annual Legislative Reception and Day at the Capitol to connect our members and elected officials; and new this session as we play a more active role as a resource to legislators, three Tech Caucus meetings in partnership with CompTIA that were held over the course of the session that were well attended and led to deeper engagement.

The 2017 Legislative Session covered many important tech issues and we will look to continue that momentum through the interim as we work to identify issues affecting our members.
