      CDOT needs 1,000 volunteers for pilot I-70 ski traffic project

      The Colorado Department of Transportation is seeking about 1,000 volunteers for a pilot program to alert drivers to problems on the road. The agency hopes the program will smooth traffic on the congested Interstate 70 mountain corridor during next winter’s ski season. CDOT announced Tuesday it was signing on with HERE, a subsidiary of Nokia, a Finnish multinational communications and information technology company.

    7. City approves $879K for dispatch startup

      The City of Montrose made good on its pledge to move forward with creating the Western Colorado Regional Dispatch Center, on Tuesday night approving a significant chunk of money for equipment purchases and answering link technology.

      Council voted 4-0 to pay $695,172 for equipment and services from Motorola/QDS Communications. The body also voted 4-0 to purchase from CenturyLink the necessary PSAP 911 equipment for $184,785. Councilor Judy Ann Files, the fifth member, was absent.

      The U.S. Small Business Administration announced on Tuesday that three startup accelerators from the region are among 80 nationwide that have been granted $50,000 awards as as part of the SBA’s Growth Accelerator Fund competition. The Warehouse Business Accelerator in Loveland, MergeLane in Boulder and the Unreasonable Institute in Boulder were the local winners.       Steamboat ski passes getting tech upgrade

      — The era of fumbling through jackets and layers to find and display that ski pass to a lift agent at Steamboat Ski Area is over. The ski area announced Monday it is incorporating a new technology in its lift tickets and season passes that will allow hands-free access to lifts and the gondola. It's called radio frequency identification, or RFID, and the RFID chip embedded in the passes and tickets will automatically open access gates to the lifts when a skier or rider approaches.
