      CoorsTek buys battery technology maker, forms new speciality division

      CoorsTek has purchased Boulder Ionics, maker of electrolytes for batteries, and has paired it with another business to form a CoorsTek Specialty Chemicals unit. The Golden-based company announced the deal Friday. Terms were not disclosed. Arvada-based Boulder Ionics, formed in 2011, makes electrolytes sold to makers of batteries and capacitors used in consumer electronics, automobiles and, possibly, for use by utility companies in grid-scale energy storage.

      Two Colorado teams have made the first cut in an international technology competition backed by the Environmental Defense Fund and seven major oil and gas companies.
